The Curator’s Report
Spring 2004

Ahhh Spring! Time for lots of new events and exhibitions at the Highland House Museum.

With the help of Diana Worthington, I’ve been collecting information, memorabilia and locating paintings we can borrow by Helen Sawyer and Jerry Farnsworth. We are planning a wonderful exhibit showing their life and work in Truro during the 1930’s 50s when Farnsworth has a portrait painting school in Town. You won’t want to miss this exhibit!

In addition, thank you to Ralph Woodward, Larry Peters, and Diana who have met with me every month, all winter long to plan our summer-long Writers of Truro, Past and Present program. This amazing team has collected books, articles and lots of interesting facts and artifacts from Truro writers, which will be on display all summer. They have also planned an extensive program of readings and panels discussions related to writing in Truro.

Thank you as well to Diana and Cathy Skowron who have continued where Diana and Rebecca Bruyn left off, inputting our thousands of photographs into the computer for easy access. What a HUGE volunteer job it has been…and it is not over yet!

On May 29 at 10 a.m.,  we will our annual Volunteer Orientation and Coffee with Volunteer Coordinator Alexandra Macdonald. At that time, you can meet our new Assistant Curator, Mal Gray, and get a chance to sign up for our new Docent Training.  We need additional volunteers so please ask your friends to discover the joys of volunteering at our amazing museum.

And, we couldn’t have a successful summer without your help and attendance. Thank you to our members and visitors who keep The Highland House Museum hopping, seven days a week, all summer long!
